About Curriemuirend Park
Curriemuirend Park is part of Juniper Green, itself in the West of the City of Edinburgh.
The park provides an oasis of greenery with Wester Hailes to the North, the City Bypass to the
West and Juniper Green village to the South.
The park's name dates back to the area's original name, Currie Muir (lit. Boggy Moor)
which appears in Kirk records until the end of the 18th Century, by which time Juniper Green
village had become better established. The name Curriemuir End however remained in use
for some years subsequent, appearing on
maps
up until the end of the Second World War.
Upon the development of Wester Hailes in the early 1970s, the park retained its undeveloped
status and became an even more important park area for an increasing local population.
Today it has kept its natural beauty, further enhanced by the planting of over 5,000 trees by
the
Millennium Forest
for Scotland Trust.
